Abstract

The article From the Margins to the Center analyzes the German discourse on Islam, which is strongly shaped by legal and security‑policy categories. It argues for a de‑religionization of migration‑related debates in favour of historical and social perspectives. Central concepts include reciprocal integration – understood as a dynamic process of negotiation between minorities and the majority society – and resonance (following Hartmut Rosa), which conceives of social participation as a process of mutual transformation. Drawing on Derridaʼs notion of hostipitalité, the article shows that belonging is always tied to relations of power. An ethically grounded Islamic theology oriented toward the aḫlāq tradition can create new spaces of resonance and counteract the over‑Islamization of integration discourse. The path from the margins to the center therefore requires not mere adaptation, but structural change and active co‑creation by post‑migrant actors.
